Former UR football coach passes away

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Former Richmond Spider football coach Jim Tait passed away Friday after a long illness. He was 75.

Mr. Tait coached football for 42 seasons, including 24 at UR. He was Richmond's head coach from 1974-1979. The Spiders won the Southern Conference title in 1975 and Mr. Tait was named Coach of the Year.

He also served as Spider offensive coordinator from 1965-73. His offense led UR to the memorable 1968 Tangerine Bowl victory over Ohio University, 49-42.
