RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A GRTC express route could be going away.
According to an article in Thursday morning's Richmond Times-Dispatch, the route — with three trips from Mechanicsville to Richmond in the morning and three back in the afternoon — currently averages about five riders per trip or 30 a day.
Authorities say that's not enough to be viable. The route costs $330,000 a year.
They want to see 100 riders a day by April 1 of next year, otherwise the route could be reduced or eliminated altogether.
Pick-up and drop-off happens at the Park-and-Ride near the intersection of Cold Harbor Road and Old Mechanicsville Turnpike.
One Hanover supervisor believes that busy location may be the problem, and should be moved further east on 360.
If you want to go to the meeting, it's Thursday night at 6 p.m. in the public meeting room of the Mechanicsville Library.
That's located at 7461 Sherwood Crossing Place.
If you can't make it, you can still call GRTC to submit your comments to leaders here at headquarters.
