Man, 80, charged with murder in Middlesex

MIDDLESEX, VA (WWBT) - George Henry Roye, an 80-year-old Locust Hill resident, was charged with first degree murder on Monday in the shooting death of his son-in-law, 55-year-old Charles Purnell Scott, Sr., according to the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence located in the 500 block of Silver Ridge Road, where the weapon used in the shooting was recovered.

The 911 call came into the communications center at 1:42 p.m., the caller reporting a man down, not responsive, adding that he thought the victim had been shot.

Officers arrived on scene at 1:47 p.m. and cleared the residence. Roye was taken into custody without further incident at that time. The suspect was placed under arrest within 10 minutes of time the original call came in.

Additional charges are pending against Roye in the matter, who is being held without bond at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center.

The last homicide to occur in Middlesex County was five years ago, according to the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office.
