Driver in deadly Hanover crash identified

HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - On Saturday at 12:10 a.m., Hanover County deputies were dispatched to Studley Road between Pollard Creek and Williamsville for a single vehicle crash involving 2006 Dodge Pickup.

Preliminary investigation by Hanover County Sheriff's office reveals that the pickup was heading toward Williamsville when it sped past two vehicles heading in the same direction (over a double solid line).

After the illegal passing, the Dodge pickup entered a curve, ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and ran off the opposite side of the road.  The truck flipped onto the passenger side and collided with a tree into the roof area.

There were three occupants in the truck.  Two were transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The third occupant, Brandon C. Armstrong, a 21 year old from the 9100 block of Harvey Hollow Drive in Mechanicsville, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crash Investigators with the Sheriff's Office have determined that Armstrong was the driver of the Dodge pickup.

Speed and alcohol were contributing factors in this crash.  Investigators still have to confirm some facts prior to making a final determination on which occupant was driving the vehicle.
