HOPEWELL,VA (WWBT) - A local mother is accused of providing a minor to an elderly man for multiple sexual encounters. The alleged crimes happened on two separate occasions in Hopewell.
Prosecutors say 31-year-old Bonnie Barnes supplied Lewis Riddick, who's a registered sex offender, with a 13-year-old in exchange for money.
Barnes says the charges against her are false. She is facing a number of charges including, prostitution and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Police say Barnes set-up sexual encounters involving herself, a 13-year-old girl, and 78-year-old Lewis Riddick.
The alleged incidents happened between January and February at Riddick's home. Police recently arrested the pair.
We caught up with Barnes and her children. She denied the charges and had little else to say about the case.
"I don't want to be on the news. Can you please stop videotaping my house," said Barnes.
Barnes' acquaintance, Lewis Riddick, is also facing several charges including two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor and soliciting prostitution. Riddick is a registered sex offender.
Some of his neighbors are horrified.
"I had no idea -- it's unreal," said Sarah Fain-Dereski.
She has a 9 and 12-year-old.
"I just can't get over it. It's just too close to home," said Fain-Dereski.
Other neighbors call Riddick a nice guy who's made mistakes.
"He get my mail and I get his mail and we take turns talking and everything -- he's a good neighbor since I've been here," said Wendy Coalson.
Wendy and James Coalson have known Riddick for 8 years.
"I have no problem with him. I help him and he helps me," said James Coalson.
The Coalsons say they hope the charges against Riddick aren't true. Police say there was no sex -- but rather improper touching between Riddick and the minor.
Riddick is being held at Riverside Regional Jail. Barnes was released on bond under the condition she stay away from all minors, except her children.
Barnes and Riddick are due in court June 15th.
