Man robs GameStop at Willow Lawn

HENRICO COUNTY (VA) - A crime alert from one of our area's most popular shopping centers. Someone robbed the GameStop store at Willow Lawn, on Broad Street. It happened Tuesday, at the busy shopping center, in broad daylight.

GameStop, some would say, is a one stop shop for all your gaming needs. Kids and those who are kids at heart spend a lot of time here.

But right around the dinner hour, at 6 p.m., Tuesday, we're told a man no one knew, came in - inquiring about specific merchandise. Police say the suspect came in acting like he was going to buy something, then followed a worker to the cash register demanding money.

Police say the suspect, who didn't show a weapon, then took off.

The news of the robbery made one GameStop frequenter particularly uneasy.

"I see a lot of kids, women and you many cops through here, so it's ridiculous how that could even happen," said Christian Elkins.

Others were caught by surprise as well.

"Well, I'm a little amazed that somebody would have the audacity to commit a crime such as that in this area," said Kevin Thornton.

The busy store is surrounded by other retail stores like Ross and there's even a Gold's Gym in the same parking lot.

But most shoppers aren't too worried about crime running rampant in Willow Lawn.

"I'm very comfortable and if I wasn't I certainly wouldn't have my some with me so I'm not concerned, I think unfortunately bad incidents happen but overall it's a very safe place, very safe area, it always has been," said Monte Thomas.
