Henrico woman accused of embezzling from Catholic school

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – A Glen Allen woman is facing charges of stealing money from a Catholic school.

Alyson A. Banks, 32, of Kingscote Lane, was charged Tuesday with two felony counts of credit card fraud and one felony count of embezzlement.

Henrico Police say they were alerted in January to suspicious activity concerning the funds of a school located in the 9500 block of Gayton Road, which is the address of St. Mary's Catholic school. According to police, Banks was given access to an account card to make regular purchases and converted funds in excess of $5,500 for her personal use.

At the time, Banks was a volunteer member of the St. Mary's School PTO, according to a Diocesan attorney.

Banks is free on $15,000 bond. A man who answered the door at her Glen Allen townhouse said Banks was not available to comment, adding that, "it's not a good time."

Banks is scheduled for a June 15th hearing in Henrico General District Court.

The pastor for the school declined to comment.
