RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Quick acting Richmond Police officers are able to catch two armed robbery suspects just minutes after the victim called police. It happened at an apartment complex on the 3900 block of Forest Hill Avenue just before ten Tuesday night.
Most of the neighbors in this area hadn't heard about the recent robbery. Police tell us they were patrolling this area when the call came in. The suspects hadn't gotten far before they were caught.
Nothing but cars were whizzing by that block when we stopped by. News of the crime came as a surprise to some neighbors.
"It makes me feel like you've got to protect yourself at all times," said neighbor, Andrew Ohree. "I mean you've got to use your second amendment rights."
"Because it's a quiet area and you really don't see many people coming through this way," said neighbor, Shaquarn Harris.
The manager at The Park at Forest Hill apartment complex there told us that he is aware of the incident but would not comment any further. Thankfully police were able to apprehend two suspects which the victim later identified as his attackers. 20-year-old Aaron Gary and 18-year-old Devin Wyklle were spotted nearby. Police tell us they even found a knife on one of them. Back at the apartment complex, one neighbor, who asked we not show her face on TV, tells us this isn't the first time something like this has happened in the area.
"Last year someone got robbed over here in the same area," said neighbor Sheena Hall.
And even days after the robbery we spotted several Richmond Police officers driving through the complex.
"It doesn't bother me," said Hall. "As long as I make sure I am not by myself. I always either like to have someone watch me come out or I'm with someone else."
Thankfully the victim was not injured. The suspects got away with the victim's money. Both of the suspects are charged with robbery. If you are a victim of a crime it's important to call police right away and give them as detailed description of the suspects as possible.
