RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia residents turned in more than 9,500 pounds of unused prescription drugs during a statewide collection event.
The April 30 collection was Virginia's second Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The first take-back day held in September 2010 collected 5,182 pounds of expired or unwanted drugs.
The event is designed to keep prescription drugs away from children and drug abusers and out of drinking water and waterways.
Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and law enforcement officials announced the results of this year's event Friday in a news release.
