Child found in car with alleged drunk driver

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – A local mom is in trouble tonight. She's accused of letting her 4-year-old daughter, get in the car with an alleged drunk driver!

Chesterfield Police have charged Angela Spicer with child neglect and the driver, Charles Purdy II with several crimes including drunk driving. Spicer's brother hopes her child is taken away from her especially after her most recent arrest.

The pair was arrested this past Saturday. Charles and Angela were pulled over on Jeff Davis Highway. Police tell us that Charles was drunk and charged Angela with child neglect because they say she knowingly let him drive with her and her 4-year-old daughter inside the car. We spoke with Angela's brother Jeffrey Bonds by phone. Even he could not defend her alleged actions.

"She needs to go away for a couple of years until she gets straight," said Bonds. "The child needs to be taken away from her and her ex-husband doesn't need to have her either."

Jeffrey tells us he hasn't spoken to his sister in nearly six years but still wants to see her punished if she is in fact found guilty.

"There's no sense in something like this," he added.

Angela faces one charge of abuse and neglect of a child. Charles faces at least three for DUI, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and for being a habitual offender. Her brother tells us that his sister is dating Charles Purdy. He's not sure where the 4-year-old girl, his niece, is at this time.
