RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In this edition of the Restaurant Report, one violation at a restaurant has to do with salsa, that Mexican favorite used for dipping chips and garnish.

El Nopal, at 5205 South Laburnum Avenue in Henrico, had 6 critical violations on their state health inspection. The salsa was not being kept cold enough, some was at a room temperature of 80 degrees. It's supposed to be stored at 41 degrees. But all critical violations were fixed by their next inspection a month later. We called the restaurant but did not hear back.

In Chesterfield, Sushi Box at 11460 Belvedere Vista Lane also had 6 critical, including that the food contact surfaces of the sushi prep area were not observed sanitized. Not only do food contact surfaces have to be cleaned, they must be sanitized with sanitizer. One violation was corrected during the inspection. We contacted Sushi Box but did not receive comment.

Friendly's is where ice cream makes the meal and cleanliness makes the inspection. The Friendly's at 13800 Fribble Way in Chesterfield wins this week's NBC12 Hall of Fame Award for 3 perfect inspections with cherries on top.

"Great health scores help out a lot. Especially with today's economy the way that it is, people are looking for places to go. So I think Friendly's should be out there as one of the best places for moms and kids to come visit," said General Manager Rasheed Alford.

The Hard Shell is opening a second location in the Chesterfield Shoppes at Bellgrade, according to Richmond BizSense. It will open in September.
