CHESTERFIELD, VA - A golf course can be an intimidating place. A fear of embarrassing oneself on the links can keep even the proudest of men from picking up the game. No need to be scared golfers, some local pros are here to help.
Brandermill and Birkdale Golf Courses are hosting "Play Golf Chesterfield", an initiative to try to motivate men and women to get out and learn more about the game. The pros from the courses will host an hour and a half of free instruction each Sunday in the month of May. Each week there is a different focus - this up coming Sunday is driving and fairway woods, the following weekend is putting and the short game. It's open to golfers of all ages and levels, but the main goal of the initiative is to get players who are just starting to come out and feel comfortable on the golf course.
Birkdale pro Chris McNeil says they started Play Golf Chesterfield last year, just to try to help spread the game, and that they had as many as 60 players show up to the lessons.
Each instruction lasts from 2pm to 3:30pm, and involved question and answer sessions, plus one-on-one time with the instructors. Also vendors will be in attendance unveiling new product lines and doing ball fittings. To sign up for one of the free sessions, just email email@example.com.
