Child sex crime trial for former state police captain delayed

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The trial of a former Virginia State Police captain accused of child sex crimes has been delayed in Brunswick County.

Edward Hope Jr. is accused of sexually assaulting a girl, now 14, during a camping trip in 2003.

The trial was supposed to start today, but a defense motion was granted to have the Brunswick Commonwealth's Attorney testify.

A special prosecutor will be brought in.  a trial date will be set at the end of June.
