RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A May Day parade spilled into Broad Street, despite a judge's warning to keep to the sidewalk.
The ACLU represented the protesters who wanted to march in the streets but did not want to pay for off duty police officers.
Protesters started on the sidewalk Sunday, but took to the street anyway.
In a recent lawsuit, they said they shouldn't have to pay to exercise their right of freedom of speech.
Nearby police escorted the protesters during their march.
About two hundred people gathered to voice their support of worker's rights.
