RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - In this week's Politifact Virginia report, another conspiracy theory about President Barack Obama. Listen to this one from Gordon Robertson from the Christian Broadcasting Network.
""He was raised Muslim, father Muslim, went through a Muslim school and went through all of that and has come out and said 'I want to be a Christian,'" Robertson said.
According to the reporters at Politifact Virginia, that claim is as wrong as it gets. In fact, they say Gordon Robertson's "Pants Are on Fire."
While rumors of the President's Muslim roots abound in conservative circles, there is really no definitive evidence.
According to Obama's writings, like his book the "audacity of hope" -- his upbringing was largely secular.
He went to an Indonesian school, that wasn't religious, but many of his classmates were Muslim. His stepfather was Muslim and he may have attended a mosque from time to time.
However, according to Warren Fiske at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, there is simply no proof that President Obama was ever a practicing Muslim.
"That alone does not make someone a Muslim. A Muslim is usually considered to be someone who practices and embraces the religion and there is no evidence has ever done that," Fiske said.
