Judge denies ACLU bid for parade fee waiver

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A Federal judge denied an ACLU bid today to waive a fee for a Richmond parade.

Organizers wanted to throw a parade around Monroe Park this Sunday for May Day.

Police denied the parade permit unless the group paid $294 for off-duty officers to serve as escorts.

In his ruling, Henry Hudson wrote, that the group failed to show Richmond Police denied the parade permit based on anything other than reasonable public safety concerns.
