RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle tractor-trailer crash on I-95 South, just north of Belvidere Street.
The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday.
The driver of the tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the roadway, striking the jersey wall. The driver's side fuel tank ruptured, spilling 25 to 40 gallons of diesel fuel.
The driver suffered minor injuries from a medical condition and was transported to VCU Medical Center. The tractor-trailer was loaded with approximately 15,000 pounds of copper.
Clean up crews had to deal with several problems. Along with the fuel that leaked onto the road, crews had to empty all of the remaining diesel into huge tanks, before removing the truck from the road.
It took about 3 hours to finish the clean up. Around 9 this morning, all three lanes of the road re-opened.
The driver will not be facing any charges for the accident.
