FARMVILLE (WWBT)-  The first reports from the storm's path came from Prince Edward County and Farmville.  That is where dramatic photos and video came flooding on to nbc12.com and our facebook page.

Perhaps the photo that captured the fantastic funnel cloud in Farmville the best came from Amelia Perry. It was taken on campus of the Longwood University.

That still image was peaceful, powerful and beautiful. This video provided by Jessica Gayle showed what it was like as the storm was forming.

The skies over Farmville looked similar in this shot over the baseball field at Longwood, sent in by Hope Brooks.. And this shot above Sun Chase, also at Longwood.

On the ground, near the campus book store Barnes and Noble, Zach Haefling caught this intimidating cloud that appears dangerously close to someone standing nearby.

Also falling from the sky, huge pieces of hail. Margie Mallow Epperley held the hail balls up to a Pepsi can to show just how big they were.

Powhatan had its share of funnel cloud sightings as well. Like one provided by Tom Lewis

And this shot from a clearing on Route 13 near Ridge Road, provided by Robert Ellington.

A crazy and scary night that despite the excitement left behind quite a show but very little damage.

And this of course just a small fraction of what people sent into us tonight.

Something to keep in mind the next time you find yourself in a storm, at a safe distance of course, with your mobile phone.
