RICHMOND, VA - Condolences are pouring in for Bruce Jamerson, who served as clerk of the Virginia House of Delegates for 20 years. The 53-year-old died in the early morning hours of Easter Sunday - along the James River, in Powhatan.
According to the medical examiner, Jamerson took his own life.
Two capitol square sources, told the associated press that Jamerson died of a gunshot wound. The medical examiner's office has since confirmed the gunshot was self inflicted.
State police were called to search for Jamerson shortly before midnight on Sunday --- after his car was found parked not far from where his body was discovered.
Governor Bob McDonnell had this to say about his friend Bruce Jamerson. "His was a life of substance, character and meaning."
The governor ordered the state flag on the capitol --- to fly at half staff both today and tomorrow.
