RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Richmond Spiders had an opportunity to shock the college baseball world on Wednesday.
UR went to Charlottesville to face the number one team in the nation: UVA.
The Cavaliers have only lost three of their 40 games this year.
It started out with some scary moments in the first inning, when Richmond shortstop Mike Small suffered a terrible injury to his lower right leg as he slid into second base.
The Times-Dispatch reports the injury was so gruesome, one fan who witnessed the accident actually passed out.
The good news: Small is expected to be ok.
The game continued with UVA up 3-0 in the third inning.
Later, Goochland native John Hicks, also know as "Jazz" to some of his fans, singled home Chris Taylor to give UVA a greater lead.
UVA would easily win this matchup, 12-1.
