Traffic up at Amtrak Staples Mill station

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Catching a train at the Staples Mills Station is the easy part this week. Finding somewhere to park your car...not fun.

"Yah we noticed. We just traveled around about three times. We just traveled around the parking lot so there's nothing available," said Don Lloyd.

We caught Don Lloyd dropping off his father Al for a trip home to South Carolina.

Rachel DePompa: "So you chose to take the train rather than drive back from Richmond?"
Al Lloyd: "No headaches. No worries. Just sit back and relax."

Al says on his fixed income, driving was not an option.

"The wear and tear on your car, the price of gasoline and everything else; it would actually be cheaper to ride the train," he said.

Gas prices around Richmond are climbing up to $3.84 a gallon. Amtrak says that coupled with spring break is leaving trains with little room.

"It was very packed yes. We had trouble finding seats, but we found them eventually," said Dean Grant.

Grant took his kids to Baltimore by train for a baseball game.

Rachel DePompa: "Was it fun?"
Ryan Grant: "Yes!"
Rachel DePompa: "Was it packed?"
Ryan Grant: "Yes!"

Thomas Scott took a train last week and says it was just as full.

"When I first got on, on the way up I couldn't find a seat for about the first half hour," Scott said.

People were parking their cars in tow away zones Wednesday. We saw plenty of vehicles making endless circles looking for parking.

Amtrak is advising that you get here early and again, ask someone to drop you off or catch a ride here rather than trying to park your car at the station this week. It is extremely busy.
