CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A disabled Vietnam Vet is in jail accused of holding a woman against her will and raping her at knife point.

61-year-old Otis Alexander is charged with rape, forcible sodomy, abduction and drug possession.

The woman said Alexander kept her captive for 19 hours. I spoke with her by phone. She said Otis Alexander attacked her inside a shed behind his mother's house. She said she got away when he left to get a drink of water.

Alexander's 88-year-old mother said her son has been in and out of jail since he returned home from Vietnam.

"His first going in was for messing with drugs," said Alexander's mother.

On Thursday, she said Alexander called her from jail with news about his latest stint in lockup.

"I know nothing about it until he called Thursday and told me what the charges were. (Were you shocked?) Yes I was," said Alexander's mother.

Alexander was arrested Monday and charged with four felonies, including rape and forcible sodomy. The 44-year-old woman he's accused of assaulting said she's known Alexander for a couple years.

She said she went over to his mother's house to borrow some money from Alexander for gas when he led her to a shed in the back yard. The woman said Alexander attacked her twice at knife point.

That was noon on Sunday, she said. At 7 the next morning, the woman said she made a break for her truck. She said when he left the shed to get some water from the house, she grabbed her keys and escaped.

Alexander's mother said she hasn't spoken to her son since his call from jail.

"All I know they came here and got him. That's all I know," said Alexander's mother.

Alexander is expected to appear in court in mid-June. He's being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail.
