Animal cruelty investigation in King and Queen

KING AND QUEEN, VA (WWBT) - A Virginia couple accused of neglecting nearly three dozen horses has been indicted on animal cruelty charges. This case is unfolding in King and Queen County.

Robert Amos and Elizabeth Newsome-Amos each face 20 counts.

Take a look at these pictures taken last summer when the horses were removed from their property.

The United States Equine Rescue League took custody of the animals.

Authorities say some of the horses have since died. Others have been adopted or are now in foster care.

The couple will be arraigned in July.
