Victim in attempted abduction says she was almost raped

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A 14-year-old girl, on her way to school, was held up at knife point and nearly abducted. Tonight she's safe, but the suspect is still at large.

The suspect tried to abduct the girl around 6:45 Friday morning, on the 100 block of East 34th street in Richmond. The victim is a bit shaken up but doing ok. Her mother stood with tears pouring down her face as she listened to her daughter describe what happened.

Richmond Police won't answer any questions tonight and are only calling this an attempted abduction, but the victim says what could have happened is much worse.

"I think he was trying to rape me!" said the victim. "He was trying to take me to the back of this abandoned house."

The 14-year-old girl is still shaken up. Early this morning her long walk to school took a scary turn. She was attacked by an unknown man.

"He pulled out a knife out of his side pocket and then he grabbed me by the back of my neck and said, 'Come with me. Come with me!' So I started screaming and I was crying!"

Her screams were enough to alert a neighbor who raced down the street after the suspect in the girl's defense, blocking him from escaping with her BMW.

"I rolled my window down and I was like what are you trying to do to that girl?" said neighbor, Tenesha Britton. "And he was like, 'I'm not trying to do nothing to that girl.' And I'm just like mmmhhmm..."

Together the two helped police create a composite sketch of the suspect who unfortunately still got away.

"I didn't have my cell phone with me and I didn't have my bat with me!" said Britton.

"What would you have done with your bat?" asked NBC 12's Evrod Cassimy.

"Beat him!" she yelled.

And Britton has plenty of reasons to fight back. Her three children have also walked the long dangerous route to school. The victim tells us there is no school bus option.

"They need to have buses around there because there's a lot of young ladies that are walking around there and he might try to get one of them," said the victim.

And as the search continues for the man in the picture...

"I just hope the police catch him before my father do..." she said.

The suspect is described as a black male, 35 to 45 years old, 5'8" tall, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black cargo pants, black sneakers and latex gloves. If you think you know who he is, you can call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 780-1000.
