Politifact Virginia: Tim Kaine's record as governor

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The race for Virginia Senate is underway and already the team from Politifact Virginia is keeping a close eye on the candidates to make sure that what they say is true.

Former governor Tim Kaine has been a candidate for a few days. But he's already touting his record, like this particular claim from his intro video.

"And that is why Virginia was named the best managed state in America, the best place to do business and the best place to raise a family," Kaine said.

Is that true? Was Virginia considered all of those things during Kaine's term as governor?

According to the reporters at Politifact Virginia, that claim is indeed true.   Kaine served as governor from 2006 to 2010. In 2008, Governing magazine awarded only three states -- including Virginia -- a grade of "A minus."

From 2006 to 2009, Forbes magazine named Virginia the top state to do business. In 2007, Education Week and the PEW center on the states named Virginia the "Best State to Raise a Child."

But while Kaine's claims are true, he isn't the only one who can make them. So can a guy running for the same job, named George Allen.

"Kaine is pointing, well rated," said Jacob Geiger with the Richmond Times- Dispatch.
