New Henrico police chief begins Monday

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A changing of command ceremony in Henrico Thursday as the county's long time chief of police begins his retirement.

Taking the helm of the department is Lt. Col. Doug Middleton - one of retiring chief, Henry Stanley's top men for several decades.  Middleton started as an officer in 1972, and came up the ranks to deputy chief.

Stanley, who's been with Henrico since 1962 and chief since 1995, knows he's leaving the department in good hands.

"I think that Doug is prepared for the future and of course, I think he will like change - and make changes, because things change every day - and hopefully for the better," Henrico Police Department Chief Henry Stanley.

Doug Middleton takes over as Henrico's chief of police on Monday.
