On-ramp from Route 5 to I-295 back open

HENRICO COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - The ramp to Interstate 295 is back open right now after a tractor-trailer accident that tied up traffic on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning, Virginia State Police responded to a single vehicle tractor-trailer crash on the on-ramp from Route 5 eastbound to Interstate 295 southbound in Henrico County.  A 2000 International tractor-trailer was attempting to enter onto Interstate 295 southbound when the driver lost control of his vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

The driver, Edward A. Marrow Jr., 33, of Richmond, was not injured in the crash and was wearing his safety belt.  Marrow was charged with reckless driving.

Speed is considered a factor in the crash.  The posted maximum safe speed for the on-ramp is 35 miles per hour.

The ramp remains closed as crews continue to clean up the approximate 44,000 pounds of paper products.  The ramp closure is expected to remain closed for approximately two to three more hours.

The Henrico County Police Department assisted during the crash investigation.
