Police use tear gas and rubber bullets on rowdy fans

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Virginia State, City of Richmond and VCU police officers used tear gas to get control of rowdy fans after VCU's loss to Butler University.

By 11 p.m. the crowd had largely dispersed. Earlier, the scene was chaotic.

It all began on West Broad Street where students started small fires. Police in riot gear herded fans to Monroe Park using tear gas and rubber bullets.

At one point, a student threw a gas canister back at police.

Richmond police said six people were arrested for disorderly conduct.
