RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Tow trucks were already out an about Friday afternoon as parking restrictions for the 10k went into effect at 3:00 p.m.
Street closures along Franklin between Laurel and Belvidere are already in place. And folks heading out to the Monument Avenue 10k Saturday morning are already planning on how they're going to get to the starting line - on time.
"It's going to be chaos...utter chaos tomorrow," said first time runner Jennifer Moore.
"I think it's going to be really crazy tying to find parking so we have to get out early," said runner Leigh Ann Hughs.
For those trying to avoid finding street parking - $5 can get you a space in one of four parking decks in the area. They're located at 801 West Main Street, 1101 West Cary Street, 609 Bowe Street and 100 South Jefferson Street. But you can expect they'll fill up quickly too.
"You just expect it, it's gonna be busy, it's gonna be crazy so you just leave early, plan ahead and do the best you can," said Casey Nugent, runner.
First time 10k participant, Emily Abbott, won't be taking any chances.
"My daddy's taking us, he's picking us up at 7:45," she said.
Most of the street closures will start from 4 a.m., Saturday morning. If you're not attending the 10k, and need to get around town...find an alternate route.
So your best bet is to use I-95 or I-195 to get around the city. This year, spectators and participants are asked to dress up in black and gold and VCU gear to create a "Ram-pede" in celebration of VCU's big game Saturday night!
The racing fun begins at 8 a.m. with the Virginia 529 kids run; the 10-k race starts at 8:30 a.m.
