Man charged with abduction of Roanoke girl, 12

ROANOKE, VA (WWBT) - Three and a half months after he was brought back to Roanoke County from San Francisco, a grand jury has indicted Jeffrey Easley in the kidnapping of 12-year-old Brittany Smith.

The grand jury met Friday morning and into the afternoon.

Roanoke County Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Leach told WSLS-TV in Roanoke that the only charge presented to the grand jury was "abduction with the intent to defile."  Leach said the grand jury found probable cause that Easley kidnapped Brittany with the intent to have sex with her.

A trial date has been set for July 28-29.

Leach said investigators are still waiting to get back lab test results in the murder of Brittany's mother Tina Smith, before filing charges in Tina's death.

No one has been charged in Smith's slaying.
