VCU hall-of-famer is heading to the Final Four

Posted by Shawn Maclauchlan

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Former VCU basketball player and hall-of-famer Len Creech played for the Rams first basketball team, in 1968. Creech now has some physical limitations — but he still wants to make it to Houston to cheer on his team.

Creech is the only VCU player to score 2000 points in his career and he's still got it. A stroke may have left him with mobility issues and unable to speak, but shooting hoops still brings a smile to his face.

Creech and his son go to every home game and a few away games every year. So when the Rams take on Butler, his family and friends want him there.

They started a facebook page called "Get Len Creech to the Final Four in Houston."

Even strangers voiced their support.

The Westin in Houston is donating his hotel room. VCU has donated two tickets, and a local ticket broker has donated a third ticket for his family. The family is using donations from facebook to pay for the flight. The Westin is picking up the rest of the tab.

Len is going to fly to Texas Friday. The Westin Hotel plans to throw a welcome party for Len.

More than four decades after playing on VCU's first basketball team, one of the school's hall-of-famers is headed to the Final Four.
