RICHMOND, VA (WBBT) - At Richmond International Airport, evidence of Rams fever as fans board flights bound for Houston and the Final Four game. The team received a rock star sendoff before taking flight.
The VCU Rams soared into the cloudy sky late Wednesday, after a rousing good-bye from die-hard fans.
After the huge send off at the Siegel Center, the team and their mass entourage arrived at the Million Air Hangar in grand style.
With their game faces on, the players had little to say, but appreciated all the support.
Travelers snatched up Rams gear and fans like VCU junior Alexandra McDougall, caught flights to Houston.
"I'm just happy to be able to go. My parents were really nice and definitely chipped in and realized how excited I was about it," said McDougall.
Danielle Dodson, also a VCU student, leaves on Friday.
"I'm kind of excited because it's the first time I've ever flown," she said.
Dodson says she won a chance to be inside Reliant Stadium on game night through a VCU student raffle. Her parents foot the bill for her flight to the Final Four. "For those of us who are on the outside watching I've experienced on the court stuff. For me, I know what that feels like and I would support anybody doing it," said Dodson.
Both girls are staying through next Tuesday, hoping to sit in on a Rams championship game the day before.
"It's just amazing just to see how far you can come when people doubt you. I think they've been so talented all along and kind of under the radar. We've always known they're really great and now everyone knows," said McDougall.
If you can't make a flight to Houston for the Final Four game, don't worry. There will be plenty of watch parties all over the Richmond area Saturday night.
