RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - VCU nation is celebrating this morning — the Rams are back in town and getting ready for the Final Four!
Thousands of people packed the Siegel Center overnight to welcome back the team.
For hours, students stayed up to party and enjoy the victory.
The roof almost blew off the Siegel Center just after 1 a.m. when the Final Four Rams emerged from under the tunnel.
You couldn't even hear yourself talk inside when the team came out . There was only a few empty seats.
Joey Rodriguez carried the Southwest Regional Championship trophy into the arena.
It was a proud moment for a team that many thought shouldn't even be in the tournament in the first place.
But now the Rams have gone from one of the last teams in, to one of the last four teams remaining.
"No one thought they could beat Kansas," said VCU fan Geral Staten. "We just got to stay together as a family, do the impossible and win it. The people's champ VCU. Let's go!"
"It feels great," said Rodriguez. "We earned this. We fought hard and now we got two more games."
The first one comes against Butler on Saturday.
But before that, the fans are going to continue to celebrate — many will probably be picking up a Final Four t-shirt, which will be at the book stores at VCU very soon.
