RICHMOND, VA. (WWBT) - Final Four fever is hitting Ram Nation! The Virginia Commonwealth University Rams are heading to the Final Four, after an amazing run through March Madness so far. Overnight, thousands of fans packed into the Siegel Center to welcome the team back.
The partying hasn't stopped and probably wont until the fans see that NCAA Championship trophy here next week. Some may say that's far fetched. But the fans that packed the arena at 1am, believe.
VCU nation is alive and well. Fans started lining up outside the Siegel Center at 9:30 Sunday night to see the VCU Rams, walking into a nearly packed house after 1 this morning. The roof nearly blew off this place.
"We got the belt," said Geral Staten. "Just feeling real good right now. I know all the guys from campus and it's just an inspiration in my life."
Not only his life, but the college basketball world. The VCU Rams, one of the last four teams into the big dance, are now one of the last four teams still dancing, all the way to Houston.
"They the people's champs! Way to go VCU," adds Geral.
"We want you Butler! We want you Butler. We are going to take it to you. Houston is going to be lit up with the black and gold," says another fan.
They're getting their wish. Butler is the only thing that stands between the Rams and a chance to play for the National Championship.
This team knows that. In fact, the piece of hardware the team held up this morning might end up to be not the last, at the Siegel Center this year.
"Man, it feels great to see all these people out here supporting us. It's awesome," said basketball player Joey Rodriguez.
"As advice to Butler, you don't want to go to war with the Rams because this, this is what you have to go up against," says another fan.
Needless to say, this week this campus will be going crazy -- if this party is any indication.
VCU plays Butler on Saturday night with a tip time just after 6 p.m.
