Governor calls to congratulate Rams

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Governor McDonnell watched the VCU game Sunday night with his staff.

We're told he was in his office in Richmond "reviewing bills" but took the time to call VCU's head coach Shaka Smart soon after the game, to congratulate him and the team on their victory.

"We all look forward to cheering them on in the Final Four next weekend," said McDonnell. "This group of talented student athletes is doing a tremendous job. Go Rams!"

Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones was in San Antonio for Friday's game but was back at home watching with family and friends Sunday.

"VCU advancing to the Final Four is the stuff dreams are made of," said Jones. "This is a team of players who believe in each other — VCU is putting Richmond on the map like never before and we'll see the nation at the Final Four."
