Federal budget claims: Will GOP cuts cost a million jobs?

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There have been many accusations and predictions thrown around regarding the federal budget.

Republicans accuse Democrats of spending too much and Democrats say proposed Republican cuts will do too much damage.

Here is an example of a Democratic claim. Organizing for America, President Obama's political arm, made this claim on twitter: "The GOP budget plan would cut nearly 1 million jobs."

Is there any truth to that statement? according to the reporters at Politifact Virginia, that claim is only "Half True."

And here is why. Just like similar projections from Republicans it is difficult to make a specific claim about something happening in the future.

OFA cites analysis from various left-leaning economists. They claim over as many as four years, GOP policies could force 1 million jobs to be cut.

But while Democrats happily pointed to several economists who agree. Politifact reporter Jacob Geiger found just as many who don't agree.

"Economists cant obviously see the future, they can't tell what is going to happen when they change policy they can only look at past results and projections and modeling,' Geiger said.

And you can see all the information behind this week's Politifact Virginia report on their web site, www.politifactvirginia.com and you can see all our past reports on my political blog, www.decisionvirginia.com
