RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Starting at 8 a.m. Friday, you'll see one lane on one side of the Mayo Bridge shut down.
It will stay that way until 7 p.m. while crews install equipment for the testing they'll be doing Saturday. That's when the entire bridge will be closed for most of the day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sharon North with Richmond Public Works says the testing is all part of an ongoing structural analysis and feasibility study.
"Two 25 ton trucks will go across the bridge; they'll make stops and delays and what not while the gages put in on Friday measure how the bridge responds to precalculated and predetermined weights and loads," said North.
The right northbound lane will be closed Friday.
Southbound traffic can get by and so can northbound traffic, but just in the left lane. So, you may need some extra time.
When the bridge is closed for load testing Saturday, drivers that want to cross the river will be detoured to other bridges in the area.
City crews say if weather gets in their way Saturday, they'll close the bridge Sunday instead.
