RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - At least two groups are interested in the City Stadium property, which we've learned needs some pretty pricey repairs.
A new press box, sound system, and scoreboard, just to name a few — at a price tag of $2.5 million, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The city and an engineering firm completed a preliminary review of the City Stadium property looking for maintenance and improvement issues.
We've been reporting for some time now that both a development firm and VCU have expressed interest in the stadium, and the paper is reporting that Mayor Jones is preparing to include money for general facility repairs in the 2012 budget.
VCU wants to continue using the site as a stadium, while the Fulton Hill Partnership is working on a proposal for a large mixed-use development.
Mayor Jones has announced plans to hold community meetings focusing on the area's future, but none of those have been scheduled yet.
