Sen. Jim Webb hints about his future

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - He may not be interested in running for his current job again, but Senator Jim Webb may not be done with politics just yet.

Virginia's senior senator was in Richmond Tuesday and hinted that, even though his name won't be on a ballot in 2012, he may not be gone forever.

"I intend to stay politically involved. I just think six years in the senate is about right for us," said Webb.

Former governor Tim Kaine is the leading candidate to replace him as a Democrat.

Many political experts say Webb could replace Secretary of Defense Robert Gates if he steps down.

Webb is a Vietnam veteran. He also has served as assistant secretary of defense and was a secretary of the Navy.
