CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield County is pleading with the Governor Bob McDonnell to veto an unmandated bill that would require students exercise for 30 minutes a day.
The school board and board of supervisors just sent the letter that mentions the county's financial concern.
Requiring students to take physical education 30 minutes a day will cost Chesterfield nearly $7 million and require the school system to hire more than 130 teachers.
The school system told the governor it already promotes exercise and has removed most fried foods and soda machines.
Several other Virginia school districts have sent letters against the bill to the governor.
Governor McDonnell has until March 29 to make a decision.
