RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Spiders got a huge NCAA resume-boosting victory, while also putting them just one step away from an A-10 tournament.
Richmond won for the 6th time in the last 8 games against ranked teams and the 7th time in the last 11 against ranked opponents with a 58-54 victory over No. 24 ranked Temple in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The Spiders, who have won 13 of the last 15, tied the school record for wins in a season (26), matching last year's win total. Richmond advances to the Atlantic 10 Championship Game for the second-straight year and the third time in 10 seasons in the league.
Kevin Anderson scored 22 points and Justin Harper had 18 points and nine rebounds. Kevin Smith grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for the Spiders, who out-rebounded the Owls 42-36.
Richmond, which finished 13-3 in Atlantic 10 play, has avenged two of its conference losses (Rhode Island and Temple) in advancing to the title game to face Dayton. The Spiders have three top-50 RPI wins and 7 wins against teams in the top-103 in the RPI.
