RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)- Last night in Washington, D.C., the Radio Television Digital News Foundation held its First Amendment Awards dinner.
The annual event honors the work of journalists across the country, who work to uphold the freedoms written in the first amendment.
One of the honorees was Susana Schuler, a news executive with Raycom Media, the parent company of this station.
Schuler says the first amendment carries a huge responsibility, "the most important thing remains that we apply journalistic standards and ethics. The first amendment affords us tremendous protection, but we should use that wisely, to do what a community expects us to."
CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer was also honored. The event also included a tribute to radio and television journalists who covered the events of September 11th, 2001.
