RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There's one thing in common among all three of the restaurants in this week's restaurant report. They all received violations for not keeping important items clean.
Our first stop is frequented by both locals and travelers. The Terra Nova Bar and Grille in the Wyndham Richmond Airport Hotel at 4700 South Laburnum Avenue. The restaurant, which usually gets good inspection scores, had 8 critical violations, including that there were dirty knives in a wall holder. It then had 3 critical violations on a follow-up inspection two weeks later. But the restaurant manager tells us everything has now been fixed.
Next we move into Richmond to sandwich shop Blimpie, 324 Cowardin Avenue, which had 7 critical violations. The report says the panini grill was soiled to sight and touch, which was noted as a violation they had before. Violations were corrected during the inspection. We contacted Blimpie but did not receive comment.
It was a similar problem at the Stratford Grill at 2805 Hathaway Road in Richmond, with 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote that the flat top grill and the interior of the ice machine were soiled to sight and touch. Violations were also fixed while the inspector was still on site. We reached out to the Stratford Grill, but did not hear back.
Habanero Mexican Grill in Henrico is not only celebrating it's second anniversary this week, it wins the NBC 12 Hall of Fame Award for 3 out of 4 perfect inspections.
"I like to train my employees very well and I like people to come in and see a clean place. So I spend my time here to get my employees to do the best," said owner Elmer Cueller.
Habanero is serving up Mexican fare both at 9101 Quioccasin Road and now on a mobile cart at 10th and Main downtown.
