Bird wins state semifinal, Springers fall to Norcom

by Matt Lincoln

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - There will be no rematch of the Central Region final in the Class AAA State Championship Game.  L.C. Bird overcame a third quarter deficit to beat T.C. Williams, while Highland Springs blew a double-digit halftime lead to I.C. Norcom in the state semifinal games Wednesday night at the Siegel Center.

The Skyhawks trailed the Titans by 8 points in the third quarter, and forced overtime.  Thanks to sophomores Javonte Reddick and Robert Johnson hitting big shots down the stretch, Bird was victorious 60-54.

The Springers led defending state champion Norcom 30-17 at halftime in the final game of the day at the Siegel Center.  But Norcom went on a huge run in the third quarter, and stifled the Springers offense after halftime.  HSHS was eliminated 61-50.

Bird will play Norcom Friday night at the Siegel Center for the state championship.  The Skyhawks are looking for the first title in their history.
