HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - "I don't know a consumer right now in these challenging economic times that wouldn't like a deal," said Program Manager Mark Romers.

The idea is simple: pick up your free Henrico Advantage Card, show it to a cashier and get an automatic discount. Dozens of Henrico businesses are featured on the card, with more being added weekly. Retailers spend anywhere from $100-$10,000 to participate.

"These retailers, their dollars are very important to them too and this has given them a lot of Bang for the Buck," said Romers.

People's Tax got on board just in time for this tax season. This business got its start in Henrico County 23 years ago and since expanded to nine locations across the metro region.

"We don't mind giving a significant discount to attract new business," said Charles McCabe, President of People's Tax.

It costs about $200 for these CPAs to prepare your taxes, with the Advantage Card you could save about $50.

"I'm a big fan of discount coupons and with the gas prices and food prices going up, it's important to use every type of discount that's available," McCabe said.

"We're passing them out as fast as we can," added Romers.

There are more than 24,000 currently in circulation and are not limited to use in Henrico County.

"If they have multiple businesses in the metro region then they can promote it wherever they're businesses are," Romers said.

Restaurants like Plaza Azteca have two locations in Henrico County, but that discount also applies when you travel south of the river to the Westchester Commons location in Midlothian.

And any profit goes back to help people and projects in Henrico County.

"It's going to benefit the schools, charities, needy folks and needy projects within the community," explained Romers.

You can pick up the Henrico Advantage Card at any area BB&T Banks, or at Henrico County offices, libraries and business associations. If you want to see where you could be saving, click here
