RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - If it hadn't been caught on tape, Jersey Mike's owner William Wilson might not believe it. He came in early yesterday morning to count donations collected for The Children's Hospital, but he couldn't find the jar.

What he did find on the store's surveillance camera shocked him.

A suspect comes back from the bathroom, checks to see if anyone is watching the front counter, grabs the jar and makes a quick getaway.

Wilson could not believe what he saw, "What a low life. I mean, you know, we're trying to raise money for The Children's Hospital. He comes in here, uses the bathroom, steals from us and steals from The Children's Hospital."

Wilson told Richmond Police exactly what happened and plans to give them the surveillance footage, but the question is, will it be enough?

The camera that points directly at the front counter was broken at the time. Had it been working, there would have been a clear picture of the suspect as he walked out the door.

Customer Jason Zinn was disgusted by the story. Now, he wants to put some cash in this new jar, "I hope that we're able to raise even more, even from this little news segment." Zinn adds, "Obviously they need that money. So hopefully we'll be able to get that back."

While Wilson wants police to catch the person responsible, he hopes karma doesn't catch him as well. "I hope that the guy who took the money doesn't have a kid that someday needs that support."

Jersey Mike's will continue collecting money throughout the month of March.
