HENRICO, VA (WWBT) – A man is arrested, accused of groping girls while swimming at the American Family Fitness in Short Pump. Police tell us that at least one of the victims is 9-years-old.

Police tell us that 41-year-old Juan Poveda touched two women while in the pool. Few details are being released right now while this incident is still under investigation.

The parking lot at American Family Fitness was packed Friday afternoon with people heading in for their daily workout. None we spoke with were aware of the accused sexual assault reported there weeks ago.

"If it was me I would slap him!" said American Family Fitness member Lindsay Ford.

"That's troubling. Maybe we need lifeguards in there now," said Deb Angstadt.

Juan Poveda was arrested Thursday...accused of touching an adult woman and a 9-year-old girl, both below the waist, while in the hot tub and pool. Women we spoke with who workout at this gym were disgusted.

"Well it kind of makes me think where were her parents? Did they see this happen?" asked Lindsay.

"I think I'd go to the management and ask them to call the authorities. Would you go in the pool again? Um, I doubt my daughter would want to!" Deb said.

According to a police report Poveda listed Crofton Lane in Henrico County as his address. Unfortunately none of his neighbors knew him well enough to comment on camera about the incident.

We knocked on several doors in the neighborhood including the one where neighbors believe Poveda lives but got no answers. Back at American Family Fitness, a spokesperson for the company told us: "…member safety and security comes first at their facility. They have policies and procedures in place to handle incidents like this and they do not tolerate this type of activity."

The spokesperson declined an on camera interview and because it's a private incident, could not comment on how this specific situation is being handled internally.

And while police continue to investigate we're told that Poveda is facing two misdemeanor assault charges. Police would not release Poveda's mugshot because the incident is still under investigation.
