RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Dominion Virginia Power is busy, keeping track of the strong winds and any power outages in our area.
We took a shot of our tower cam high above NBC12 overlooking Chesterfield County and you could see it bouncing around.
Back down on the ground, we caught several signs blowing around, the stars and stripes whipping around and even a birds nest hanging on for dear life in a tree.
"It's really windy. I'm going to hate it when I have to walk to class," says Alexandra Jones.
That's not all Alexandra is worrying about today, thanks to the wind. "I have to get my hair done today. I've been waiting for this appointment. I'm not going to let the wind stop me," she said.
The wind didn't stop the fully staffed storm center at Dominion Power today. The nerve center is keeping track of everything going on.
"From weather patterns and conditions to staffing levels for our crews and if any damage assessors that we may need," says Dominion Representative David Botkins.
Extra staff is on hand today. Dominion has hundreds, and even thousands, of crews available if needed to fix any power outages.
Dominion is even tweeting to keep you aware of the latest conditions and who to call if you have a power outage. In fact, we're told on days like this, a lot of people tweet the power company.
"Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst," adds Botkins.
That's exactly what Alexandra is doing right now. "Maybe at school the power will go out and we will get to go home!"
If you need to report an outage, call Dominion at (866) 366-4357.
