RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Do you find yourself taking your pet to the vet more? Or do you find your cat or dog experiencing joint problems?

A new study out finds about 53 percent of cats and 55 percent of dogs in America are overweight or obese.

That's about 93 million pets across the U.S.

The numbers were revealed yesterday by the association for pet obesity prevention.

Doctors say many injuries, joint problems and surgeries conducted every year can be traced to your pets weight problems.

The average age of the pets used in the study ranged between six and seven years old.
