Asbestos discovered in office of Va. Senator

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Sen. William C. Wampler Jr., (R) 40th District, discovered asbestos on the window sill in his State Capitol office Sunday night, according to the Clerk of the Senate, Susan Clark Schaar.

It fell from above the ceiling tiles. He reported it Monday morning.

The office was sealed and scrubbed.  France Environmental tested the air quality and dust samples. The tests came back below the permissible rate by EPA.

Schaar said it's known that asbestos is in the building.  It's in the insulation in the newer part of the west wing.  She said when any construction is done in that area they have to bring in an environmental company.
